Actor-politician and DMDK founder Vijayakanth dies in Chennai; he will be buried with state honours.

Just a short time after being placed on ventilator support, Vijayakanth, popularly known as “Captain,” passed away on Thursday morning. It was two weeks earlier that he had been released from the hospital following his initial stay for therapy.

New Delhi: On Thursday morning, at the age of 71, Vijayakanth, a well-known leader of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party, passed away in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

DMDK claimed on its previous Twitter account that he was having trouble breathing and had been diagnosed with COVID-19.Later today, his final ceremonies will take place at the party headquarters in Chennai.In 2005, Vijayakanth established the DMDK, and in 2006, he emerged as the only victor.

Elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. The party had a decrease in 2010 after receiving 10% of the vote in Tamil Nadu’s 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

According to The Hindu, Vijayakanth required “pulmonary support” when he was admitted to the hospital last month. Two weeks ago, he was let go. He took part in his final public function on December 14, the day his wife Premalatha Vijayakanth was chosen to serve as the party’s general secretary.

On December 28, actor, politician, and DMDK founder Vijayakanth passed away in a private Chennai hospital. He was brought to Chennai’s MIOT International Hospital.

Vijayakanth’s Political Career:

Vijayakanth became well-known as “Captain” as a result of his on-screen military roles. Regarding his political career, he started the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party in 2005, marking his political debut.

 In the 2006 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, the party received 10% of the vote, marking its electoral debut. Vijayakanth joined forces with the AIADMK in 2011 to take the lead in the Tamil Nadu Assembly’s opposition.

 Later, the party cut its connections with AIADMK over differences of viewpoint, which resulted in a widespread resignation.

Vijayakanth led the opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly from 2011 until 2016. Following that, as a result of a dispute over voting preferences, the party terminated itsVijayakanth resigned as an MLA as a result of his affiliation with the AIADMK. 

He was the representative for the seats of Rishivandiyam and Virudhachalam.
