In September 2023, Goyal was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in relation to Jet Airways‘ purported bank fraud of 538 crores. Goyal is being held in judicial custody in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail at the moment.

Nresh Goyal submitted a bail application last week in front of Special Judge M.G. Deshpande. Goyal asked the judge for a few minutes during the hearing to make a personal statement, and the judge granted it.

With his fists clasped together and a “constant shaking all over his body,” Goyal expressed how much his condition has become worse. He stated that his only daughter was ill and that his wife, Anita, was in the hospital with advanced cancer for which she is currently receiving treatment.

Goyal also brought up the prison staff’s shortcomings in helping him. He indicated that there was discomfort and swelling in his knees and that he could not flex his legs. The judge said, “I listened to him carefully and saw his state when he gestured. I observed him trembling all over. Even to stand, he need assistance.”

Nresh Goyal, an ailing businessman whose health is failing, asked to “die in jail” rather than be taken to JJ Hospital, underscoring the challenges associated with transportation and follow-up care.

“I’ve lost all hope in life,” Goyal declared, adding that “it’s better if he dies in this condition rather than living.” Citing the court hearing records, the PTI news agency reported this.

Goyal also highlighted the lengthy line of patients, which makes it hard to see the doctor on time. He replied that it is not possible to follow up with him after a medical examination.

With a declining health, the old trader begged not to go to JJ Hospital but to be permitted to “die in jail,” citing worry about being followed up with and traveling.

Goyal said that “he has lost all hope in life, and it’s better if he dies in this condition rather than living.” Citing the court hearing records, the PTI news agency reported this.

Furthermore, a claim was made about one’s physical look to convey everything directly, and it was made clear that additional physical appearance would not be required.

The judge reassured, “I have noted down everything he said, and the accused is assured that he will not be left helpless, and appropriate measures will be taken for his mental and physical well-being.”

The special court ordered Goyal’s attorneys to take the appropriate steps for his well-being. When requesting bail in December of last year, Goyal had listed a number of medical conditions, including heart

disorders, prostate issues, and orthopedic issues, asserting that there are good reasons to think “he is not culpable.”

When Goyal’s bail application is next heard by Special Judge M.G. . Deshpande is set for January 16. The ED’s case is still pending. It is based on a complaint that the CBI filed over an alleged 538-crore fraud at IDBI Bank that involves the founder of Jet Airways, his wife, and a few former executives
